This is an excellent infographic showing the changes in SEO over the last quarter of a century! Keyword Eye have covered the years from 1990 to 2015. You may not have been around in 1990, I wasn’t…but I know those who have been around since 2007 like me, know all about Caffeine, Penguin and Panda. I can feel you shuddering!
As the infographic shows, quality content is the best way to get organic traffic to your website and the search engines love it when you provide quality content! After all that is what they want to give to their own customers that are searching on their platform.
If you provide high quality content, the content your target market is searching for, you will be rewarded by the search engines as they will show your content in the search results…but only if it is high quality.
This is one of the reasons I advise my clients to write articles and provide great information. Many are concerned they will be providing free information and won’t make sales. This is so not true in my opinion. If you provide free information aren’t you showing your ability and hence building trust? Aren’t you showing yourself as an expert in your field of business?
Yes you are. So start writing and get rewarded!
Social Media For SEO and/or Brand Building
Internet marketers used to use social media for SEO purposes and for building their brand, however today Google uses social signals to see what sites are popular and if they are trusted sites people are willing to share, comment and follow.
In the early days of social media marketing, marketers would trick their social media popularity by buying likes and followers, but it soon became obvious who wasn’t popular as there was no sharing or commenting going on…and no backlinks to the sites. There are many do’s and don’ts to social media marketing.
So rather than try and use social media purely for SEO purposes, make sure you add content to your sites and social media platforms so that people are happy to share and comment and follow! This is how you get rankings in Google using social media!
Google only loves you when everyone else loves you first.
Content has and always will be the most important part of any website. Why am I writing this article? It’s because I know that content is what makes the Internet! It’s an information portal and if I provide interesting content people will comment and share! (Hint, hint! 😀 )
Do you know what comes next? What happens if people share your content on their favourite social media platforms and they want to know the information shared? They click the link and visit your website! That action equals traffic!
Quality informative, unique content will always be rewarded, so continue investing in great content.
So think about what you want to write about in your niche.
- What keywords or search terms/phrases do you want to write about?
- What information are your customers or clients looking for?
- Would you like to be on the first page of Google for those search terms? Of course! The Googler could click your link, read your article, like what they see and hire you or buy your product or service.
- Or they could share your article and someone else could be your client or customer.
This is how social media works. Don’t just do it purely for SEO…it certainly helps, but not in the ways many people think. It helps because you are sending out the signals that CAN get shared, liked etc…and therefore become an expert in your niche. If you are not using social media the right way, you are missing out on being seen in your niche.
