Setting Up A Groupon Design Website
There are many WordPress themes that suit different purposes, including themes for Groupon style websites.
I have been asked to create a design similar to Groupon (or Scoopon) that could show deals from local businesses. I could see the cost could be extensive, so to minimise costs I decided to see if there was a design available that offered all the bells and whistles that Groupon or Scoopon had.
I found two designs I liked, so I thought I would share them with you and hopefully save you some time searching. I know there are many others, but these are the two I liked the best and for what I was asked to provide.

There are different buying options, but I prefer the Gold or Platinum choices. Why?
Firstly, these choices are mobile responsive designs and secondly they are SSL integrated. In other words your site can be secure and has the little lock showing in your browser bar. If you look in your browser bar right now, you will see this website is a secure site…an https site. The green lock will be visible.
- This is important to shoppers and to Google. If your site is a secure site when offering payment options, Google will know you are a trustworthy site…so will your buyers.
There are many more features, including a lifetime license.
Many themes and plugins have yearly fees attached, so this is a bonus. The ‘Platinum’ one does work out to be the most economical, because if you wish to have theme updates, this is included in the price…with the Gold option you do have to pay a monthly or yearly fee for theme updates.
- The Platinum option has free theme updates for life.
There are also more than 17 page templates and 8 home page styles to choose from.
The next design I liked was the KUPON theme from ThemeForest. At present there are 2 demos as shown below.
KUPON Homepage Style 1
KUPON Homepage Style 2
The two homepages have different options. The second demo has advertising space which you could charge advertisers for if you so desired. At the time of this writing, they have said that more homepage styles are coming soon.

The KUPON theme uses WooCommerce for its shopping platform and is mobile responsive. Although it appears cheaper at first glance, you may require some of the paid 3rd party plugins. Some WooCommerce plugins can be expensive, depending on your shopping options and offers.
I personally like both of these designs, however my clients are the one to please and therefore I give them the choice of these designs if they would like a coupon style website like Groupon.
What are your thoughts? I would love to have you provide them in the comment section below…
